This policy explains what Wattwise does and does not do with your information. It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past.
The short version
Wattwise does not have a server. It has no accounts, no sign-in, and no database that belongs to us. The appliances you add, the tariff you set and every calculation the app performs stay on your phone and are never sent anywhere.
The app does show ads, and the advertising network, Google AdMob, collects data of its own. That is the one part of the app that is not offline, and the rest of this policy explains it.
What stays on your device
The following is written to local storage on your phone and is never transmitted, uploaded, backed up to our systems, or shared:
- The appliances you save, including any names you type and the room you assign them to
- Your electricity tariff, currency, country and mains voltage
- Meter readings you enter in Meter check, and bill figures you enter in Bill X-ray
- Your solar panel configuration and chosen solar region
- Your language and theme preferences
- PDF reports you export, which are written to your device's own storage
Uninstalling Wattwise removes all of it. There is nothing left behind on our side, because there is no our side.
What the ads collect
Wattwise is free and is supported by advertising served through Google AdMob. When an ad is requested, Google may collect and process:
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Advertising ID | To select and measure ads, and to limit how often you see the same one |
| Ad interactions | Impressions and clicks, for measurement and fraud prevention |
| Approximate location, derived from your IP address | To serve regionally appropriate ads. Wattwise requests no location permission and has no access to your precise location |
| Device and diagnostic information | Device model, OS version, crash and performance signals |
This data is collected by Google, not by us: we never see it as individual records, only as aggregate earnings reports. Google's handling of it is governed by its own policy: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Your controls. Open Settings → Ad Privacy in the app to review or change your advertising consent. On Android you can also reset or delete your advertising ID entirely under Settings → Privacy → Ads, which stops personalised advertising system-wide.
If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland
Before any ad is requested, Wattwise shows a consent form provided by Google's User Messaging Platform, as required by the EU User Consent Policy. You choose whether to allow personalised advertising. Your choice is remembered and can be changed at any time from Settings → Ad Privacy.
Where consent is the legal basis, you may withdraw it at any time. Because we hold no personal data ourselves, requests to access, correct or delete your data relating to advertising should be directed to Google through the controls above; requests relating to data on your device are satisfied by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it. Step-by-step instructions are on our data deletion page.
In-app purchase
Wattwise offers one optional purchase, “Remove ads for life”, sold through Google Play. Google Play handles the whole payment: we never see your card, bank or billing details. The app only asks Google Play whether your Google account owns the upgrade, so it can hide ads and restore the purchase on a new phone. Google's handling of payment data is described in the Google Payments Privacy Notice.
Children
Wattwise is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has used the app in a way that raises a concern, contact us at hello@devmarde.com.
Permissions the app requests
| Permission | What it is for |
|---|---|
INTERNET | Loading ads. Every calculation works with no connection at all. |
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE | Letting the ad SDK check whether a connection exists before requesting an ad. |
com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID | Access to the advertising ID, used by AdMob as described above. |
com.android.vending.BILLING | Lets Google Play sell the optional “Remove ads for life” upgrade and tell the app whether your account owns it. It gives the app no access to payment details. |
Wattwise requests no access to your location, camera, microphone, contacts, photos, files or call history.
Data retention
We retain nothing, because we receive nothing. Data held on your device persists until you delete it or uninstall the app. Data collected by Google through AdMob is retained according to Google's own retention schedule.
Security
Information stored by Wattwise is held in your device's app-private storage, which Android isolates from other apps, and is additionally encrypted at rest by the app. Ad requests are sent over HTTPS.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the date at the top will be updated and the change will be described in the app's release notes. Material changes affecting advertising consent will re-prompt the consent form where the law requires it.
