What Shopify sites usually get wrong
- Shopify emits Product schema per product, but Organization schema is left to the theme and is frequently missing sameAs.
- robots.txt is editable through robots.txt.liquid since 2021; most stores have never touched it.
- Collection pages rarely answer a question in the first paragraph, so assistants cite the product page or a competitor's guide instead.
Applying the result on Shopify
- llms.txt on Shopify. Shopify cannot serve arbitrary root files. Use a proxy app route or host llms.txt on a subdomain and reference it from robots.txt.
- Schema on Shopify. Add an Organization block to theme.liquid with @id, logo and sameAs; leave Product schema to the theme.
- Crawlers on Shopify. Online Store → Themes → Edit code → add robots.txt.liquid and allow the four AI user agents explicitly.
