Short answer: typos make a business look careless, and Google's own quality questions ask about them. Check 192 flags commonly misspelled words and accidentally doubled words like "the the".
What Crawl Audit checks
- Warning: a word from Crawl Audit's list of common misspellings, or the same word twice in a row. The report lists up to six.
- Pass: none found.
It uses a short built-in list, not a full dictionary. It won't catch most typos, wrong words that are spelled correctly ("their" for "there"), or grammar. A pass means "nothing obvious", not "proofread".
What Google says
- From its self-assessment questions: "Does the content have any spelling or stylistic issues?" And: "Is the content produced well, or does it appear sloppy or hastily produced?"
- "Write content naturally and make sure the content is well written, easy to follow, and free of spelling and grammatical mistakes."
A quick proofing routine
- Run the text through a spell checker set to your audience's English (UK or US).
- Read headings, buttons and prices separately. They're short, so errors hide in plain sight.
- Read the page aloud once. Doubled and missing words show up straight away.
